Description

Position Summary

Responsible for developing and implementing curricula and education programs, ensuring they meet current standards and student needs. Oversees the planning program, manages the operational budget, supervises educational personnel, and coordinates administrative and technical operations involved in providing educational resources and opportunities for the tribe. Coordinates educational goals with Tribal Council, Governor, and other Department Directors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists in development of a comprehensive educational plan to address both traditional and modern opportunities.
  2. Establishes goals and objectives, ensures implementation, and monitors departmental operation compliance.
  3. Plays a positive role integrating all departmental services with other tribal resources.
  4. Responsible for recruiting, hiring, and training department personnel.
  5. Coordinates and provides general direction in evaluation of both personnel and program.
  6. Provides reports and recommendations from an educational platform to Tribal Council, Governor, and other Department Directors.
  7. Monitors issues of compliance with federal, state, and private educational resources.
  8. Plans, formulates, and administers a departmental budget.
  9. Oversees management of buildings that house educational programs.
  10. Maintains relationships to assure continuity of services to the community.
  11. Represents the Pueblo’s educational goals to the larger community through public, private, and political organizations.
  12. Ensures all department programs are delivered according to respective industry “best practices”.
  13. Provides critical review of school outcomes and services for all schools that provide services to our students.
  14. Creates an environment of team member engagement and fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  15. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to

report to work based upon the assigned scheduled each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for

Pueblo Sandia.

This position has Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) identified as a measurement of success. KPI’s will be shared with all team members who work in this job title and feedback will be provided regarding the successful completion of the KPI’s as part of the performance review process.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Ability to effectively supervise, lead, and direct the work of others.
  2. Ability to efficiently deliver both oral and written presentations.
  3. Skill in analyzing, organizing, and presenting information, on behalf of the tribe’s educational goals.
  4. Ability to develop strategic short- and long-range planning goals.
  5. Ability to manage financial aspects of the department. Oversight of revenues, expenditures, and reporting is essential.
  6. Knowledge of State and Federal law in the areas of education, childcare, recreations, libraries, food programs, etc.
  7. Ability to manage both personnel and personal calendars toward efficient use of Pueblo resources.
  8. Ability to meet federal standards of a thorough background investigation.
  9. Knowledge of National Wellness and Recreation Program delivery recommendations.
  10. Experience in providing individual and family conflict resolution.
  11. Ability to make appropriate referrals for other professional education-related services. (e.g. Occupational therapy, Psycho-educational Evaluations, and physical therapy, interpret and respond with appropriate interventions.)
  12. Ability to create an environment of teamwork.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required:

  1. High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  2. Master’s degree in Education Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
  3. Eight (8) years’ experience in educational planning and program management
  4. Five (5) years of supervisory experience.

Preferred:

  1. New Mexico State Teacher’s Certification.

License/Certifications/Registrations

  1. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.
  2. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation and character investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  3. Will require a pre-employment and random drug screening.
