Census Clerk

Position Summary:

Maintains tribal census/enrollment records and performs other related census and enrollment activities according to tribal policies and procedures. Census activities may involve some travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Completes the membership application process by interviewing applicable community members to gather information regarding required documents including current address, age, etc.
  2. Contacts community members at home, place of business, or field location, by telephone, mail, or in person.
  3. Records the information obtained from the interviews electronically.
  4. Creates tribal identification cards and facilitates the Tribal ID renewal project every four (4) years or when directed by Tribal Council.
  5. Creates and processes death certificates timely and within the guidelines for filing with New Mexico Vital Records and Health Statistics.
  6. Enters, transcribes, records, stores, or maintains information in written or electronic/magnetic form.
  7. Scan documents into the Records Management electronic system
  8. Drafts and revises Policies and Procedures with the approval of Tribal Council.
  9. Facilitates the Census & Enrollment Committee meetings monthly
  10. Serves as a Tribal Liaison for local, state and federal entities.
  11. Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility for all team members and are expected to report to work based upon the assigned scheduled each day in accordance with the Attendance Policy for Pueblo Sandia.
  12. Assists community members in filling out an application or questionnaire.
  13. Serves as a back-up for Administrative Coordinators.
  14. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent
  2. Two (2) years’ experience in general office experience, and one (1) year working with statistics or highly sensitive information. Census.
