Position Summary

Transport students to and from schools and to recreational activities or filed trips.  May assist passengers in boarding or exiting. Part time position approximately 30 hours per week from August through May and less than 30 hours perweek in the non school months.

Supervision Exercised

Supervised by the Education Administrator.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Drives bus safely to transport pupils over specified routes.
  2. Performs pre and post trip inspections.
  3. Attends required trainings.
  4. Maintains order among pupils during trip.
  5. Produces required documents in reporting issues or incidents.
  6. Complies with local traffic regulations.
  7. Reports delays or accidents.
  8. Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  9. Inspects bus and checks gas, oil, and water levels.
  10. Cleans bus after each route.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  1. Knowledge of New Mexico State Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting students.
  2. Knowledge of operational characteristics of school transportation vehicle.
  3. Knowledge of policies and procedures governing the reporting of vehicle accidents and incidents.
  4. Knowledge of principles and practices of first aid and CPR.
  5. Knowledge of methods and techniques of basic vehicle preventative maintenance.
  6. Knowledge of methods and techniques of enforcing safety regulations on a school transportation vehicle.
  7. Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
  8. Knowledge of safe driving practices as they relate to school transportation.
  9. Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
  10. Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
  11. Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged information in the course of work.
  12. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  13. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications, Education And Experience

Required

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted (CDL) NM

    Commercial Driver’s License B With Passenger And School Bus Endorsement.

Licensing Status

  1. Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation.
  2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.
  3. Must successfully complete other training within 30 days to six (6) months (depending on training required) of hire date such as: CPR, First Aide, Confined Spaces, SCBA, Blood borne pathogens, Backflow and Prevention Certification, health and safety training.

Working Conditions

  1. Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outside work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
  2. Work hours subject to change with overtime work required.
  3. Subject to hazards which may cause personal bodily harm; smoke; diseases; cuts bruises, burns, common cold, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
  4. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
  5. Duties may involve walking, standing for long periods of time, sitting and crouching.
  6. Specific required movements include the following:
    1. Trunk- bend, twist, rotate, push, pull, carry.
    2. Arms – reach, carry, lift, twist, and rotate.
    3. Legs – lift, push, pull, twist, and rotate.
    4. Hands – Grasp, manipulate bilateral coordination, hand and eye coordination, and overall and finger dexterity
