Job Overview: The Licensing Agent is responsible for reviewing and processing gaming license applications and conducting thorough investigations into an applicant’s history by interviewing references, reviewing official records (criminal, credit, driving, etc.) and assessing the truthfulness of information provided. They compile findings into written summaries, make recommendations for suitability, and research any legal or factual issues that arise during the process. The Licensing Agent) will be responsible for managing and organizing documents to ensure compliance with legal and business requirements. Responsibilities include maintaining record retention schedules, ensuring proper storage and disposal, and assisting with record retrieval requests.
Create Your Path: The Work You’ll Do:
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), SMSC Gaming Ordinance, Gaming Commission Regulations, National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) Regulations, Tribal/State Compacts, and all internal departmental policies and procedures.
- Manage sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and ensure secure disposal of records once required retention periods have expired.
- Meticulously create, classify, store, and archive physical and digital records in accordance with established procedures and retention schedules.
- Ensure all record-keeping practices remain compliant with legal requirements, regulatory standards, and internal company policies.
- Locate, retrieve, and provide records in response to internal and external requests.
- Assist with database audits and compile data to support reporting needs.
- Maintain thorough technical and practical knowledge of all Licensing software, hardware, and departmental duties, including conducting applicant interviews.
- Review and process gaming license applications, ensuring all required documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable standards.
- Conduct comprehensive background investigations—including criminal, financial, employment, education, and civil checks—and collect supporting documentation to validate applicant information.
- Analyze investigative findings to determine applicant suitability and provide recommendations for licensure eligibility based on federal law, tribal ordinances, and state regulations.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with applicants, Gaming Enterprise staff, and Gaming Commission staff.
- Participate in required training or certification programs to maintain and enhance subject-matter expertise.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Reflects minimum education, training, certification and experience required in order to meet the expectation of this job.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the casino gaming industry, or equivalent applicable experience required.
- Ability to conduct in-depth research, gather data from multiple sources, and analyze findings to make informed recommendations.
- Strong ability to prepare clear, concise reports and conduct effective interviews with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Proven ability to manage multiple files, prioritize competing tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to handling sensitive information with discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
- Experience with license management software, databases, and the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Knowledge of indexing, filing, and document management systems.
- Ability to adjust schedule and work flexible hours as needed.
- Must meet the qualifications required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
