Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing systems and HVAC systems on Pueblo of Sandia Enterprises.

Supervision Exercised

Reports to the Trades Supervisor.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Under direct supervision, installs new HVAC equipment, performs routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems including any air distribution machinery, mechanical, electronic, pneumatic and digital control, hot and chilled water distribution pumps, and variable air volume systems.
  2. Performs preventative maintenance, adjustments, and repairs on HVAC systems, including evaporative cooling systems.
  3. Applications for low voltage controls and wiring.
  4. Performs seasonal overhauls and transitions of systems to and from heating/cooling.
  5. Diagnoses and repairs ice machines.
  6. Repairs and replaces domestic hot water heat exchangers.
  7. Repairs and replaces pneumatic steam valves, radiator valves, traps, and steam and condensate pipes.
  8. Repairs and replaces domestic hot water heat pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, and sewage pumps.
  9. Troubleshoots and repairs steam, water, and gas utility distribution systems.
  10. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  12. Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions; installs, replaces or repairs damages equipment; calibrates thermostatic controls.
  13. Inspects and observes pressure of liquids and vapor with instrumentation to ensure efficient operation of units and makes necessary adjustments; inspects and services refrigeration equipment, including refrigerators.

Secondary Duties And Responsibilities

  1. Perform light electrical duties for commercial use.
  2. Installs, tests, and repairs all sizes of backflow prevention devices.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  1. Ability to work with others.
  2. Ability to operate manual and power tools used in the performance of HVAC maintenance work.
  3. Ability to prepare maintenance reports.
  4. Knowledge of general safety rules, requirements, procedures and reporting requirements.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good public and employee relations. Including educational information and awareness to properly operate equipment within a building regarding equipment performance.
  6. Ability to perform preventative maintenance according to published guidelines.
  7. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
  8. Knowledge of HVAC installations, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
  9. Ability to perform preventative maintenance according to published guidelines.
  10. Knowledge of steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems maintenance and repair.
  11. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  12. Ability to perform duties considering the full use of Personal Protective Equipment without restrictions.
  13. Available 24 hours a day.

Minimum Qualifications, Education And Experience

Required

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. Four (4) years of HVAC or Refrigeration experience.  Any combination of trade school and/or experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required experience.
  3. The following certification is required prior to employment start date:
    1. Universal Refrigerant Certification,
    2. JR: Journeyman refrigeration.
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.

Preferred

  1. Certifications prior to employment start date:
  1. JSM: Journeyman sheet metal
  2. JP: Journeyman plumber
  3. BO1/BO2: boiler operation (low or high pressure)
  4. JG: Journeyman gas fitters

Licensing Status

  1. Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.

Working Conditions

  1. Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements both indoors and outdoors, such as extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, bio-hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises.
  2. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, climbing, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  3. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
