Job Overview

The primary responsibility of the Payroll Manager is to manage the functions of payroll including basic general ledger, payroll processing and recordation for the organization. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and Wind Creek Chicago Southland policies, practices, and procedures.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Leads the activities of the payroll staff and manages payroll workload to meet operational requirements in a property level payroll environment.
  • Create a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect and employee satisfaction; quality hiring, training and succession planning processes.
  • Ensures quality and timely processing of payroll activities to include time and attendance, quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting, garnishment payments, payroll tax withholding payments, 401K contributions and match, annual Form W2s, general ledger reconciliation, and all levels of record maintenance.
  • Ensures the Payroll Operations function complies with internal policies and procedures and external regulations and laws. Participates during external audits.
  • Manage staff responsible for providing month-end reporting and reconciling to general ledger during the financial closing window.
  • Define, collaborate, and implement functionality in payroll to the best practices standards defined by respective industries.
  • Prepare periodic payroll reports for the labor department, IRS and other organizations.
  • Supervise modifications in regulations and laws relevant to payroll which calls for organization policy modifications.
  • Assist in developing and communicating payroll policies and procedures.
  • Review and balance payroll registers, tax liabilities, and incoming work.
  • Assist in review, balancing, and reporting of payroll sub-ledgers as part of the general ledger financial closing.
  • Develop a working knowledge of all IGB rules, regulations and Internal Controls applicable to your position.
  • Participates actively in outstanding customer service and maintains relationships with other departments.
  • Partners with HR/Benefits and other key stakeholders as needed to facilitate timely and accurate flow of data to/from payroll.
  • Leads and supports continuous improvement processes, including implementing policy and procedure changes.
  • Manage employee issues when they arise, including following up with any outstanding issues.
  • Train employees who are involved in payroll on tax regulations and best practices.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements: (please ensure you meet the listed requirements prior to applying)

  • High School diploma or GED required or currently enrolled and successfully complete a GED program within 6 months from start date as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field AND two (2) years’ experience in a Supervisory position– required
    • OR Four (4) years’ experience in a Management position– required
    • OR Three (3) years’ experience in a Management position with Wind Creek Hospitality– required
  • Three (3) years’ experience with payroll responsibilities, required
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and previous experience utilizing large application automated payroll and financial reporting systems.
  • Great Plains system experience – preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment and maintain physical stamina and a proper mental attitude while dealing effectively with guests, management, team members, and outside contacts while working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have the ability to independently manage multiple tasks in a professional manner.
  • Ability to respond positively and energetically to constantly changing priorities.
  • Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule, including odd/irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Willing to travel and participate in training as recommended or required.
  • Must have and maintain valid state-issued operator driver’s license.
  • Must have an Occupational License (or the ability to obtain and maintain a license) pursuant to the Illinois Gaming Act and remain in good standing with the Illinois Gaming Board as a requirement for this position
