Lumbee Tribal Territory and service area is located in Southeastern North Carolina in Robeson, Hoke, Cumberland, and Scotland Counties.The Lumbee Tribal Complex is located in Pembroke, North Carolina. The tribal housing complex, also known as “The Turtle”, houses most tribal services.

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is one of two federally recognized Native American tribes in North Carolina We participate at the state level in many ways, including in the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs. We also participate in such national organizations as the National Congress of American Indians and the National Indian Education Association.

The Lumbee tribal government is organized into three branches: the tribal chairperson (executive), the 21-member Tribal Council (legislative), and Supreme Court (judicial). The tribal chairperson and the Tribal Council are elected to three-year terms.

Our Tribe has purchased 240 acres of land just south of Lumberton along Interstate 95 in Robeson County, where we are considering building the state’s first casino east of Charlotte. The development plans include a shopping outlet and additional amenities, such as a golf course, a Top Golf-style facility, a water park or similar attractions.
