Position Summary

This position is responsible for the overall maintenance of the tribally-owned Ranch properties. Under general supervision, performs construction and general maintenance work for the housing department on community homes, buildings, and equipment. Required to perform a variety of duties that may include welding, mechanic work, heavy equipment operation and transport, forestry work, pest control, guiding and retrieval for hunts.

Supervised by the Field Maintenance Supervisor.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

May perform any or all of the following tasks:

  1. Monitor and repair property fences.
  2. Thin and clear forest debris.
  3. Assist in the preparation and implementation of a long-term management plan.
  4. Cut, haul, and store firewood.
  5. Report trespass violations to local and tribal authorities.
  6. Patrol property for trespassers.
  7. Clean ditches and culverts to provide adequate storm water runoff.
  8. May be required to participate in forest fire training and certificates.
  9. Manage livestock, if applicable.
  10. Maintain and clean ranch house in preparation for tribal programs. 
  11. Coordinate work plans, maintenance cost estimates and repair schedules with additional staff.
  12. Perform basic carpentry, cement finishing, electrical repair, plumbing, plastering, painting, glazier, roofing and sheet rock work.
  13. Inspect buildings, facilities and equipment for damage and vandalism and repair basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
  14. Install motors and maintain heating/cooling units.
  15. Visually inspect building exterior and trim, ceiling panels, roof, fire exits, walls, floors, and perform basic repair work as needed.
  16. Operate and perform maintenance on heavy equipment owned by the Pueblo of Sandia.
  17. General mechanic duties on vehicles and heavy equipment to include oil changes, fixing and installing tires with tire machine, rotating tires, installing breaks, and replacing busted hoses.
  18. Notify supervisor of equipment and supplies needed; maintain inventory and pick-up supplies.
  19. Fill in for other staff’s duties based on succession plan protocol.
  20. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  1. Ability to operate heavy equipment to include a tractor and dump truck
  2. Ability to perform construction activities using hand and power tools
  3. Ability to work in a safe manner following established safety regulations
  4. Ability to operate equipment used in construction projects
  5. Ability to make basic repairs to mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  6. Ability to maintain equipment and supply inventory
  7. Ability to lead the work of assigned personnel
  8. Basic knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements on electrical, heating, cooling and related building mechanical systems
  9. Knowledge of basic carpentry
  10. Knowledge of general safety rules, requirements, and procedures.
  11. Some knowledge of compounds and potential effects when mixed or used.

Minimum Qualifications, Education And Experience

Required

  1. High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  2. Six (6) months prior experience in general construction, building maintenance and/or yard maintenance work.
  3. Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Driver’s License.

Preferred

  1. Experience in two of the following skilled areas: carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
  2. CDL license.

Licensing Status

  1. Must successfully pass a stringent background investigation.
  2. Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.
  3. Ability to obtain and maintain any other licenses and/or certification as determined by management.

Working Conditions

  1. Duties are performed indoors or outdoors, and subject to seasonal extremes and inclement weather.
  2. Tasks may be performed on uneven, carpeted, hard and inclined slopes.
  3. Subject to hazards such as paints, thinners, solvents, gasoline, waxes, disinfectants, and cleaning compounds.
  4. Subject to hazards such as heights, motorized equipment, hand tools and electrical voltages.
  5. Additional hazards include exposure to infections, diseases, fumes, odors, dust, mists, and gases.
  6. Duties may involve walking, climbing, crouching, kneeling, and the ability to assume a prone position.
  7. Work hours subject to change with overtime work required as approved by management.
  8. Specific physical body movements require the following:
