Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation

The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation is a federally recognized tribe located in San Diego County, California, descended from the Kumeyaay people who have lived in the area for thousands of years. It is known for its self-governance, business ventures, and a strong focus on cultural preservation, which includes supporting Native artists, incorporating cultural elements into new builds, and reviving traditional practices like bird songs and dancing. The Sycuan tribe owns various businesses, including the Sycuan Casino Resort and Singing Hills Golf Resort. Its diversified portfolio also includes co-ownership of the Marina Gateway Company and the U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego. Additionally, the tribe is a co-owner ofthe new Major League Soccer, a professional soccer team, San Diego FC, which includes a training facility, and soccer academy on the reservation. The Sycuan Reservation is governed by the seven-member elected Sycuan Business Committee. Tribal officials include a spokesperson, a vice-chairperson, a secretary, and a treasurer. The departments include: administration, accounting, construction, community development, environmental, landscape and janitorial, medical administration, senior citizen programs, medical and dental clinic, human resources, gaming commission, file department, Kumeyaay Community College, learning center, daycare center, insurance and medical claims, tribal police, and the Sycuan Tribal Development Corporation.
