The Opportunity

As the Senior Accountant you will be charged with being highly organized and motivated with the ability to work on multiple tasks in a variety of companies. In this role you will troubleshoot/resolve issues affecting new businesses and be responsible for the daily operations to ensure timely and accurate information for internal and external uses, according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), IRS rules and regulations, and company policies and procedures.

What You Get to Do

  • Work in numerous companies simultaneously. These businesses include, but are not limited to, gaming, retail, hospitality, restaurant, cinematic, media, fuel and food resale and service industries. Give advice/direction to co-workers on a variety of accounting components specific to each individual company.
  • Prepare, review, and complete monthly financials statements in a timely manner as determined by Management.
  • Create invoices, apply payments, and maintain customer accounts.
  • Accurately record banking transactions including wires, transfers and reconciliation of multiple accounts and businesses.
  • Generate any required wires and/or ACH payments while ensuring appropriate cash flow levels.
  • Enter, track and collection of NSF accounts.
  • Reconcile monthly balance sheet accounts for a variety of businesses in a timely, effective manner.
  • Review and oversee balance sheet reconciliation of junior staff and co-workers.
  • Review and approve accounting entries made by junior staff. 
  • Review, evaluate, and process financial information related to the General Ledger of multiple companies, making appropriate business decisions specific to each company as needed.
  • Preparation and input of journal entries on a timely basis for each individual company to properly reflect financial performance while maintaining compliance.
  • Learn and effectively initiate use of software including troubleshooting and working with business management to resolve issues.
  • Actively work towards best practices including analyzing business processes, making recommendations on improvement, and working with business management to affect the desired goal.
  • Assist with preparing information for external annual audit and GRA internal audits.
  • Analyze information and options by developing and verifying financial reports.
  • Responsible for the protection of all company assets.
  • Prevent losses to the companies by maximizing cash flow and increasing profitability.
  • Cross-train with Accountants to assist in the workload if necessary.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial information is communicated to Management.
  • Communicate with various department leaders and managers regarding financial statements, answering accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Facilitate the flow of information throughout the property by attending regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
  • Display a high level of maturity, discretion, tact, judgment, and the ability to deal with confidential matters.
  • Held accountable, to the highest degree, for the control, accuracy and thoroughness of all expenses, records and reports exercising professional discretion and judgment.
  • Other duties as assigned that are related to this role.

What Qualifies You

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited school in Accounting or Finance or eight (8) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of experience in accounting or a related field.
  • Knowledge of GAAP or GASB.
  • CPA (Preferred).
  • Must be able to secure license from Gaming Regulatory Authority (GRA).
  • Responsible for following all relevant Detailed Gaming Regulations (DGR’s).
  • Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring process.

Must Have Skills

  • Must have excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Must be extremely numbers oriented and computer-literate with specific proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and General Ledger Applications.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in one-on-one, small group situations, and to moderate-sized gatherings of associates, executives and/or community leaders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret financial reports, contracts, and legal documents.
  • Must possess excellent Guest Service, communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
