Job Purpose

The Marketing Director is responsible for all marketing and sales efforts related to Acoma Business Enterprises (ABE) and all of its subsidiary entities.  The Marketing Director determines the demand for all services offered by all Acoma Business Enterprise entities and its competitors and identifies potential guests, patrons, customers and develops strategies with the goal of maximizing ABE's profits and market share. 

The position plans and directs advertising policies and programs that capitalizes on the shared products and services of ABE and all of its enterprise entities.  The Marketing Director engages in promoting and creating goodwill for ABE by writing and selecting favorable publicity material and releasing it through various communications media. The Marketing Director is expected to serve as a public relations ambassador for all Acoma Business Enterprises and must be courteous and helpful to customers at all times. Other related duties may be directed by management.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operational steady growth of all ABE entities, future projects and marketing campaigns to ensure efficient, successful and profitable operations of ABE businesses.
  • Assist the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Management in ensuring the development of an annual marketing plan that includes operational requirements, organizational structure, staffing and budget stability.
  • Plans and executes ABE advertising policies; plans and prepares advertising and promotional material.  Develops, implements, and maintains approval of all enterprise marketing campaigns.
  • Develops marketing strategy based on knowledge of established policies, nature of market, finance considerations, and other relevant factors.
  • Coordinates marketing activities of all ABE departments and enterprises such as sales, graphics art, media, and finances.
  • Confers with the CEO, Sky City Casino General Manager and other Executive Management, department oversights and marketing staff to discuss selection of advertising and marketing media, or enterprise and event to be publicized.
  • Monitors and analyzes promotion results to determine benefits and cost effectiveness of campaign.
  • Inspects advertising copy and edits scripts, audio/video tapes, and other promotional media for adherence to specifications.
  • Analyzes and monitors applicable industry trends, innovations and changes that affect media and marketing planning; consults publications and other sources to learn about conventions and social functions for promotional purposes.
  • Works directly with Executive Management, Enterprise Managers and Department Managers, the Executive Chef, the Banquet Manager, the Event Sales Coordinator, and others to plan, organize, and implement ABE sales and event programs.
  • Develops and disseminates a yearly Event and Sales Coordination Plan that includes major events and programs, enterprise sales coordination efforts, departmental responsibilities, and departmental progress, and provides relevant market data.  Incorporates relevant market and enterprise data in the development of this Plan.
  • Develops and analyzes promotions pre-performance and post-performance, and reports to Executive Management Team.
  • Develops, analyzes, and presents reports ranging from activity reports to statistical analysis reports of marketing effectiveness.
  • Execute and monitor strategic marketing plans, both short and long range, to achieve Acoma Business Enterprises marketing objectives.
  • Provides advice on segmentation of the player database, the design of player level privileges, major prizing and the design and content of direct marketing collateral materials.
  • Develops innovative casino promotions and events including gaming tournaments, business partnerships, specific casino marketing plans for the slots, table games, and bingo departments, and exciting special events and promotions for casino patrons.
  • Generates sponsorships for major promotions. Coordinates with outside agencies to promote and or produce promotions & events on site.
  • Coordinates casino promotions and events with involved departments.
  • Develops/creates co-operative programs to incorporate into marketing strategies.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive pro-active plans to maximize conference center and VIP showroom usage and tournament schedules.
  • Investigates, locates and purchases needed materials for promotions keeping in mind budgetary guidelines.
  • Manages Marketing budgets.
  • Research competitors to stay current with similar products or services on the market.
  • Review current marketing trends and advertisements to determine the effectiveness of different styles and strategies
  • Create and maintain a successful brand and image that attracts customers to the product or service.
  • Develop marketing strategies for new products or services that comply with current company standards.
  • Researches database information along with Casino Marketing Manager to identify customer demographics and interests; consults with management on methods of targeting, developing and informing customers of upcoming hotel/casino special events.
  • Maintains and updates customer database continually ensuring the highest level of data integrity, including measurement systems; maintains confidentiality of database and files.
  • Responsible for working and assisting with other marketing projects including but not limited to promotions, events, entertainment, tournament, trade shows, and research as directed by management.
  • Responsible for obtaining the written approvals for all promotions and elements used on behalf of Sky City Casino and all Acoma Business Enterprises.
  • Assists in the coordination of and development of administrative projects, tasks, and special events. Reviews, and approves, as appropriate, recommendations and suggestions to hire, transfer, suspend, terminate, recall, promote, discharge, evaluate, assign, train, develop, reward or discipline team members in the department, as necessary. 
  • May act as a “Manager on Duty” (MOD) on gaming operation floor.
  • Responsible for monitoring and protecting gaming assets.
  • Verify, authorize and sign for gaming transactions on gaming operation floor.
  • Participate in compliance training on gaming policies.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, orders, rules and statutes, including Tribal ordinances and resolutions, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC), Tribal – State compact, other applicable laws and ordinances.
  • Must be socially perceptive, administer good to excellent judgement, and decision making abilities essential.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations, maintain composure and be able to prevent and/or handle emergency situations.
  • Must be presentable when reporting to work, wearing appropriate clean and pressed uniform when applicable. Good personal hygiene required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • Minimum 10 years senior management and experience required or equivalent. Combination of professional experience and educational background.
  • Minimum five years Indian Gaming Management experience preferred.
  • Minimum five years Casino Marketing, Marketing Management or agency experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or Business Administration or related field required. 

Skills, Abilities, Knowledge and Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Acoma Gaming License.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older per Gaming Regulations.
  • Valid New Mexico Drivers’ License required (or the ability to obtain one if moving from out of state)
  • Skill in customer service and ability to remain calm and cheerful in stressful situations
  • Skill in maintaining a friendly demeanor at all times and performs job requirements with a Smile, Eye Contact & Greeting.

  • Knowledge of understanding Minimum Internal Controls (MICS), Title 31 Regulations, National Indian Gaming Regulations.
