This position is for Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Enterprises. Located in the heart of Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation on the eastern edge of Scottsdale, the venue offers premium accommodations, championship golf, fun gaming, Southwestern entertainment and unique shopping.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:    

The Enterprise General Manager is the key intermediary between the Tribal Council and Enterprise Business Managers. This position is critical in ensuring business managers effectively communicate and implement the nation's strategic vision and goals. The Enterprise General Manager facilitates collaboration, addresses concerns, and ensures that the enterprise’s operational activities are aligned with the Tribal Council's expectations. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

Essential Duties may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.

  • Ensures that the enterprise business managers understand and implement the strategic vision and objectives of the Tribal Council. 
  • Acts as the primary communication channel between the Tribal Council and Enterprise Managers, providing regular updates and facilitating discussions. 
  • Addresses and resolves any issues or conflicts that arise between the Tribal Council and Enterprise Managers, ensuring a harmonious working relationship.
  • Responsible for monitoring the performance of enterprise managers to ensure they are meeting the Tribal Council’s expectations and strategic goals.
  • Provide regular reports to the Tribal Council on the status of enterprise operations, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and strategic recommendations.
  • Manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the success of enterprise initiatives. 
  • Coordinate and oversee key projects to ensure they align with the owner’s strategic vision and are executed effectively by the enterprise managers. 
  • Advise enterprise managers on best practices and strategic initiatives that align with the Tribal Council’s vision.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are followed.
  • Establishes and fosters a climate that promotes ethical practices and integrity.
  • Establishes and fosters a positive and ethical corporate culture. 
  • Establishes an active plan for the development and succession of Tribal Members into executive management. 
  • Participates in annual budgeting, goals, and business strategy for FMYNE.
  • Ensures financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
  • Keeps Tribal Council abreast of all aspects of FMYNE, including regular formal meetings with a frequency of not less than bi-monthly and more frequent contacts on an informal basis (i.e., informal meetings, phone calls, emails, etc.), as needed
  • Meets weekly on a formal basis (i.e., not less than monthly scheduled meetings) and frequently via informal meetings, phone calls, emails, etc., with the FMYNE Chief Financial Officer and the General Managers of the existing FMYNE businesses.
  • Prepares and presents periodic reports, updates, and other information regarding FMYNE to the Tribal Council, including profitability, budgetary issues, and problem resolution. 
  • Provide leadership in setting the mission, vision, principles, and values of FMYNE.
  • Responsible for the accountability of revenues generated by FMYNE businesses. Reviews and analyzes the daily, weekly, monthly, and annual performance of all existing FMYNE businesses.
  • Review the operations of existing FMYNE businesses to capitalize on potential synergies. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Tribal Council

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates leadership and familiarity with operational, financial, quality improvement, and human resources policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret legal documents, financial journals, reports, and related documents or instructions. 
  • Annually reviews and recommends to executive management to improve the policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures compliance.
  • Maintains responsibility for FMYNE compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.
  • Communicates changes in personnel policies and procedures and ensures proper compliance is followed.
  • Consult with legal counsel when needed or as directed by the Tribal Council on personnel matters.
  • Recommends, evaluates and participates in staff development for all FMYNE employees.
  • Knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of benefits administration, including pension funds.
  • Skill in understanding and interpreting complex tribal, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies, and practices.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, directing, and managing projects.
  • Skill in developing policies and procedures.
  • Skills in oral and written communication. 
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Enterprises, tribal government, vendors, other interested parties, and the public.
  • Skill in group presentation and other mass communications skills; ability to effectively present information to the Tribal Council.
  • Strong knowledge of gaming, entertainment, and hospitality industries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or related field, or at least five (5) years of experience in a managerial position.
  • Current Arizona Driver’s License and able to meet Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation insurance standards. 
  • A Master’s Degree in a related field is preferred. 
  • Must obtain and maintain a State of Arizona Gaming Certification and a Fort McDowell Tribal Gaming License. 
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and pass a complete background check. 
  • Strong understanding of enterprise operations, financials, and strategic planning. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to work independently and make strategic decisions. 
  • Experience in reporting and performance monitoring.

Preference will be given to qualified applicants from federally recognized Indian tribes.  To be considered for Indian Preference, you must submit your Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) with your application.
