Director of Marketing

Compensation: $130,000 - $145,000 TBD - DOE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Marketing is the lead point of management and guidance for the database marketing, special events/entertainment, and promotion teams at Jamul Casino. Jamul Casino is a fun, fast-paced, and dynamic environment, and we need a leader in this role who can inspire, coordinate, delegate, and work alongside each of these teams to produce best-in-class offers, promotions, events, systems, and production to maintain Jamul Casino’s standard as the premiere casino in the area for player rewards and experiences. We are looking for a driven, energetic, and sensible person in this role with a combination of creative and technical acumen to help devise and execute the Jamul Casino marketing strategy in combination with other areas. To get there, this person must perform the following duties consistently at an expert level:

  • Responsible for directing the overall operations and team members of the database marketing, special events/entertainment and promotions departments.  Develops, implements, and manages operational goals, and monitors achievements of performance and profit objectives.
  • Assists in the development and execution of the strategic marketing plan in areas of responsibility to generate trial, build relationships with guests, optimize reinvestment, and drive long-term profitability.
  • Responsible for preparing, monitoring, and adhering to budgets and ensuring compliance with departmental budget initiatives. Reports budget concerns/deviations to the Vice President of Marketing.
  • Responsible for understanding the competitive marketplace regarding marketing strategies, programs, campaigns, and promotions.  Develops and implements programs to maintain Jamul Casino’s leadership position in all areas of responsibility.
  • Contributes to the value proposition of the Sweetwater Rewards® loyalty program for Jamul Casino to ensure the players club is competitive, cost-efficient, and reflective of Jamul Casino’s best-in-class standing as the most Genuinely Generous® casino in San Diego.
  • Works in conjunction with technical teams to build technology that will further the objectives of the Marketing department.  Identifies areas of process improvement where technology can be applied to drive better operations and player experiences.
  • Responsible for the overall integrity of daily operations, offers, and promotions.
  • Interfaces with all Jamul Casino administrative and operational departments to foster cooperation toward achieving all Marketing objectives. Keeps all team members informed of marketing strategy and relevance in each area.
  • Ensures that scheduling is done in an effective and efficient manner while managing labor costs, meeting staffing objectives, and achieving guest satisfaction.
  • Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes, and demonstrates superior internal and external guest service in accordance with department and company standards and programs. Ensures guest service standards are followed by all team members, and addresses issues as they arise.  Responsible for the overall achievement of department guest service goals.
  • Enhances guest interactions by providing a friendly greeting, offering directions, answering questions, making announcements, and creating an upbeat and positive atmosphere in both guest-facing and back-of-house situations.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulations within area of responsibility and reports potential issues to the Vice President of Marketing.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all departmental and company matters.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Five to ten years of progressive experience in the gaming industry including a senior marketing role with direct responsibility for revenue generation and database marketing Experience overseeing casino promotions is a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of systems used to execute database and direct mail efforts. MS Excel, Access, SQL, Gaming Analytics, OPTX, Trilogy / PKMS (Evri Marketing Kiosks). 
  • Must have a thorough understanding of casino customer lifecycle patterns.
  • Ability to understand and analyze budget & P&L statements, competitive information, analyze program effectiveness and develop plans with measurable results. 
  • Proven managerial and critical thinking skills required.
  • Must possess excellent team member relations skills with the ability to speak persuasively to hundreds of team members.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.  Must be fluent and literate in English.
  • Ability to respond calmly and make rational decisions when required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments and leaders to complete company initiatives and effective day to day operations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple priorities in a demanding work environment.  Willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and an extended workweek to ensure proper execution of initiatives.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job will have supervisory responsibilities.

  • Responsible for staff development and training programs.
  • Responsible for rewards and recognition program to maximize team member engagement.
  • Evaluates team members within department and delivers constructive feedback to team members on performance evaluations.
  • Determines recommendation for staffing (including interviewing and hiring) and scheduling (planning, assigning, and directing work) to meet business needs. 
  • Determines work procedures and expedites workflow.
  • Responsible for team member performance (disciplining, coaching, counseling).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents In English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Must be able to efficiently and accurately count money and gaming chips and make a change. Possess the ability to operate an adding machine and have basic computer skills.  

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Team members must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.
