Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Risk Management, the Risk Specialist provides professional support to the Director and the Enterprise Risk Management staff. The Risk Specialist is responsible for maintaining the Risk Management Information Systems and Certificates of Insurance program by keeping it up to date and in sync with contracts and enterprise requests. The Risk Specialist supports the Director by providing project management coordination for contracts, provides support within Risk Management in assessing, quantifying, and reporting potential impacts of risks to the organization.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Develops, maintains, implements and perform Risk Management vendor relations intake forms upon contract submissions. Processes all vendor requests and requests all documents from vendors for Risk Management contracts and also sends proper information to vendors.

2. Develops and implements appropriate risk assessment models or methodologies. Works with Enterprise Risk Management executives and team to create and maintain reports and tracking systems relating to San Manuel insurance programs and submits documents to appropriate authority as required.

3. Works with procurement team to manage contracts which includes assessment and review of compliance and insurance requirements within a contract related to insurance indemnification limits and liability. Reviews and ensures insurance requirements are adequate for the scope of work and indemnification language is appropriate.

4. Evaluates the amount of risk contained within a contract, including but not limited to, loss of opportunity, legal exposure, and potential enterprise business impact for the involved parties. Reviews and provides feedback on all contract language as it pertains to insurance requirements and indemnification. Identifies opportunities to partner with internal stakeholders to minimize exposures to the Enterprise.

5. Maintains communication with all departments to ensure that updated information is provided for insurance requests and applications to submit for renewals to the appropriate third party.

6. Executes and manages enforcement, conducts audits, and define opportunities for improvement to ensure exemplary regulatory performance to comply with Certificate of Insurance (COI) program and processes. Ensures COIs are received for all vendors and contractors as required by established policies and procedures. Verifies the information provided on the certificates of insurance, logs certificates in the Risk Management Information System, and ensures companies providing certificates meet San Manuel requirements.

7. Assists with insurance policy renewals, incidents and claims data collection, issuance of certificates of insurance, and risk management programs. Provides Shared Services to other San Manuel entities.

8. Assist with Enterprise Risk Management-related Business Continuity Planning coordination, and oversight of BCP presentation, implementation and results.

9. Develop, maintain and implement Risk Management programs, policies and/or training materials in compliance with Enterprise and department standards.

10. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Requirements

Education/Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business or related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in Risk Management or related industry required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • Designation(s)/certification(s) such as ARM, CRM, CRMP or equivalent preferred.
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • A qualified candidate/employee must have a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
