Job Description

Under the supervision of the Saganing General Manager, the Executive Hospitality Manager is responsible for all Food & Beverage and Hotel Operations areas (Hospitality) for Saganing Eagles Landing Casino & HotelAccomplish the property’s objective, including Food & Beverage and Hotel, by planning, organizing and directing all functions according to the goals and objectives of the whole property.  Oversee activities of employees to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all hospitality staff achieves the goals, objectives and world class service standards of the property.

  • Create and develop the long-range hospitality plan for the property within the organization structure consistent with the organization’s strategic goals.

  • Answer guest complaints and resolve problems.

  • Ensure that all guest hotel and dining experiences are exceptional; develop and implement a recovery system to ensure 100% satisfaction.

  • Ensure the hotel operations areas are following sound yield management practices and proper housekeeping procedures.

  • Work with the Facilities Department to create a sound PMS program for all hotel rooms and hospitality areas.  

  • Develop marketing plans to maximize hotel and food and beverage revenues, highlighting the property’s offerings.

  • Develop and administer the hospitality department budgets. Manage budgets through constant monitoring and reporting of variances and justification for variances to improve operation.

  • Create, maintain, and update the hospitality areas policies and procedures.

  • Ensure that all hospitality employees receive complete and comprehensive training to provide excellent service to guests.

  • Develop and maintain a long-term asset management program to ensure equipment and FFE depreciation and replacement is tracked and implemented within budgeted funding.

  • Oversee the hospitality team to include efficient staffing, team member development and training, performance management and policy enforcement.

  • Manage all activities of the hospitality departments and perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures and the associate handbook; including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; offering coaching/corrective action when necessary.

  • Ensure all weekly timekeeping duties are completed and all requests for time off are approved and processed for the hotel property.

  • Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings with the hospitality management team to ensure communication lines are open and information is flowing.

  • Work closely with the Chef and other culinary staff to create distinctive menus for all outlets, to include casual three (3) meal and quick service options.

  • Develop service styles and standards that will afford guests a unique and enjoyable experience.

  • Ensure food & beverage departments are trained and conform to proper food handling and alcohol service standards, and follow sanitary practices (ServSafe, HACCP food storage, TIPS Alcohol responsibility certification).

  • In collaboration with other applicable departments, plan and execute special events (Marketing VIP events, Tribal Council hosted events, etc.).

  • Maintain all hotel operations and food and beverage areas, both front and back of the house, in “as new” condition at all times.

  • Work irregular hours when required and remain on call on a 24/7 basis.

  • Provide excellent guest service for all internal and external guests of the operations at all times.  Provide solutions for guest concerns and continually focus on guest service as our top priority.

  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts

  • Contact with General Manager, Hospitality Managers, and other casino department management, to ensure open lines of communication for a smooth and efficient running operation.

  • Contact with guests, community and outside vendors.

Requirements

GAMING INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public relations, promotions, and marketing in a hotel environment.

  • Knowledge of hotel inventory programs.

  • Knowledge of surrounding travel and tourism organizations.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices within the food and beverage/hospitality industries, food service quality and safety standards.

  • Knowledge of the cost analysis techniques, principles and practices of management accounting, finance, and business administration.

  • Knowledge of the development, preparation, and control of budgets.

  • Knowledge of managerial and statistical analysis techniques and reporting procedures.

  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and PC-based computerized accounting software.

  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.

  • Skill in providing leadership to, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.

  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to create and present effective speeches and presentations.

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality or related field.

  • Five years of experience in a food & beverage management capacity.

  • Previous experience with multi-managed food & beverage outlets.

  • Exceptional customer service, computer, and communication skills.

  • 24/7 operation, must be willing to work all shifts.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a gaming license to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.

  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.

Desired Qualifications

  • Five years of progressive management experience in hotel operations preferred.

  • Sales and Rooms experience preferred.

  • Hospitality and hotel opening experience.

License, Certification, or Special Requirements

  • Must have a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License, with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties, and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.  A Tribal Driver’s License will also be required if a Motor Pool Vehicle is used in the course and scope of the required job duties.

  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers associated with computer operations.

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.

  • Stoop, bend, kneel or crouch.

  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Normal office and hotel environment.

  • Frequent walking and standing in a smoking environment and contact with the general public. Constant visual stimulation via neon lights on slot machines, repeatedly changing machine video screens, static or flashing signs throughout the casino and constant machine and crowd noise.

  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.

  • Travel may be required.
