REPORTS TO: Director Casino Marketing
SUPERVISES: Special Events Project Managers and staff
OBJECTIVE:
Conceptualizes, organizes, and implements Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino special events, promotions, and supports staff relations events, tribal events, and community relations events within the parameters and budgets established by the Director of Casino Marketing.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to work flexible hours, on holidays and weekends as needed, meet deadlines, deal with changes, perform detailed work, work independently, work with multiple internal departments, work with outside vendors and contractors, and work in a fast-paced environment is essential. Work location and conditions may change from time to time to include, but not limited to, outdoors, off property, on casino floor, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conceptualize, coordinate, communicate, and implement all approved special events including but not limited to VIP parties, player development parties, slot/table games tournaments, golf tournaments, and promotional events.
- Conceptualize, coordinate, communicate, and implement all casino promotions, special events, and entertainment.
- Develop and maintain all departmental event and promotional budgets, including projected and actual budgets with supporting documentation.
- Negotiates sponsorship deals, prizes, entertainment, services and equipment contracts to maximize return on investment.
- Establishes and communicates room blocks for events.
- Makes promotion and prize decisions as needed, including, but not limited to, on floor decisions, additional awards, additional entries, drawing timing, and other over-arching decisions tied to events, promotions, tournaments, and entertainment/concerts.
- Arranges for accommodations and meals (RFB) for entertainers, contractors, and others as needed.
- Responsible for approving expenses and invoices for the department within company guidelines.
- Responsible for being aware of industry trends, competitor promotions and events, and relevant entertainers/groups which can require off-property visits and competition checks.
- Works closely in developing events and promotions with the Casino Marketing and Player Development departments to maximize return on investment.
- Propose, prepare, and maintain departmental monthly and annual calendar of events.
- Researches, auditions, and secures bookings for entertainment and oversees the development and execution of concerts and casino entertainment.
- Interacts with Tribal Council and Tribal Members as needed on Special Events, programs, and purchasing specialty items.
- Leads a department of Promotions and Special Events Departments and delegates work assignments accordingly.
- Mentors, develops and trains staff.
GAMING INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE IS PREFERRED
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of gaming, tourism, catering, entertainment and hospitality industry
- Understanding of public relations, advertising and creative design
- Excellent guest service skills and professional appearance
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Publisher and Power Point
- Ability to navigate the web for research purposes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to include precise business writing
Bachelor’s degree preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Previous managerial position in special events, promotions, casino marketing, catering, and or community relations departments
ALTERNATIVE TO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree or Special Events certification combined with a minimum of 3 years of managerial experience in the Special Events or Promotions field
