Calder Race Course in Miami has grown to become a foundation for the Thoroughbred racing industry in South Florida and plans to open a new slots operation by the end of 2009. The track, which opened in 1971 and was acquired by Churchill Downs Incorporated in April of 1999, is located adjacent to Dolphins Stadium, the home ofthe National Football League's Miami Dolphins and Major League Baseball's Florida Marlins. The track annually conducts eight months of live racing. Highlights of Calder's live racing season include the "Festival of the Sun," "Summit of Speed" and the "Florida Million.'
