With the holidays right around the corner, many job seekers are putting their job searches on hold until the New Year. Some are just too busy during this time to focus on their job search; while others think that employers may wait until their new budgets go into effect to hire new staff.
However, it is a misconception that the end of the year is a bad time to search for a job. In fact, the holiday season is a great time to search for a job.
While the holidays are near, there is still work to be done, and many employers want to hire now, so that they can train the employees before January. And the good news is that with many job seekers pre-occupied with the upcoming holidays, the competition is low.
By applying now, you can get a competitive edge!
So how can you use the holiday season to your best job searching advantage?
- Send holiday cards— Sending holiday cards gives you the opportunity to reach out to people whom you haven't seen in a while, without making it seem fake. Write a short note to "update" them on your life and casually let them know you are on the job market.
- Network at holiday parties— The holidays are time for celebration and parties. Use holiday get-togethers as an opportunity to network with friends and family. Ask about openings at their place of work.
With these tips, you can give yourself the gift of a job this season!
